Anti-Immigrant Leader Endorses Opposition Candidate in Turkey's Presidential Runoff
The leader of the anti-immigrant Victory Party in Turkey, Umit Ozdag, endorsed opposition presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu on Wednesday, potentially boosting Kilicdaroglu's chances in the runoff election against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Ozdag called on supporters to back Kilicdaroglu, stating that the two parties agreed on a plan to send back migrants within a year "in line with international law and human rights." Ozdag had previously held talks with Erdogan's AK Party but decided not to endorse them due to their plans not involving the repatriation of migrants.
Kilicdaroglu has vowed to repatriate all migrants once elected and roll back much of Erdogan's policies, including the unorthodox economic program aimed at addressing a cost-of-living crisis.
