US President Donald Trump considers imposing tariffs on the United Kingdom if it does not revoke its digital services tax, which targets American tech giants.
US President
Donald Trump has expressed his intention to impose tariffs on Britain if Prime Minister Keir Starmer fails to scrap the digital service tax, as reported by The Telegraph.
In an interview with the newspaper, Trump stated that he would 'put a big tariff on the UK' if the tax remains in place.
The United Kingdom implemented its two percent digital services tax in 2020, drawing criticism from both Trump and his predecessor, former Democratic President
Joe Biden.
This tax specifically targets prominent US tech companies such as Apple, Google (owned by Alphabet), and Meta.
Trump emphasized his disapproval of the UK's actions towards American companies.
He highlighted their significance as 'great American companies' and the top companies in the world.
Trump also mentioned that his administration is capable of responding to this measure with ease, should it choose to do so.
The President's comments come ahead of a visit by King Charles III of the United Kingdom to the US, scheduled for the following week.
