Washington: US President
Donald Trump has reportedly canceled the Secret Service protection for former vice president and 2024 Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
According to sources familiar with the arrangement, Harris' typical six-month security detail for former vice presidents had been extended to one year under then-President
Joe Biden.
The cancellation of additional security is effective on September 1st, as per a letter dated Thursday.
A Harris adviser stated that the former vice president was grateful for the dedication shown by the US Secret Service.
Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to Trump and has not ruled out a possible presidential bid in 2028.
This move comes after Trump also ended federal security protection for others, including former national security adviser John Bolton and the Biden family members such as Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden.
