Tihama’s Climate Boosts Honey Production in Baha Region
Favorable weather and diverse flora in Tihama support honey production, with Baha region contributing significantly to Saudi Arabia’s annual honey output.
The Tihama area of the Baha region, known for its moderate climate and abundant flowering trees, is attracting beekeepers to its diverse landscape, ideal for honey production.
Beekeepers such as Mohammed Al-Zahrani migrate from the Sarawat Mountains to Tihama, where the favorable conditions, including consistent rainfall and a variety of trees, help revitalize bee populations and support reproduction.
Ali Al-Ghamdi, another beekeeper, explained that regions like Qalwa, Al-Hujrah, and Wadi Al-Ahsabah provide bees with a constant food supply while protecting them from cold mountain temperatures.
Beekeeping in these areas requires both skill and patience, according to the local experts.
Mohammed Al-Shadwi, chairman of the Beekeepers Cooperative Association in Baha, highlighted that around 3,000 beekeepers are registered with the association, representing 16 percent of the Kingdom’s beekeeping community.
The region produces 20 percent of Saudi Arabia’s total honey output annually, equating to approximately 1,000 tonnes, with 15 varieties of honey.
This thriving industry remains a vital part of the local economy.
