Saudi Ministry of Culture Documents Historic Sites Connected to Pre-Islamic Arab Poets
The Saudi Ministry of Culture has initiated a project to document and map historic sites connected to pre-Islamic Arab poets in various regions of Saudi Arabia.
The project aims to install signboards, facilitate access, and introduce notable features of their poems, particularly the "Suspended Odes." Collaborators include the Ministries of Culture, Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Transport, and local mayoralties.
The project includes documenting several sites in Riyadh associated with famous poets.
The text discusses several poets from Arab history, including Laila Al-Akhiliya, Majnun Laila, Imru’ Al-Qais, and Labid bin Rabi’ah.
The text also mentions a documentation project that aims to record historical sites related to these poets.
Some of the documented sites are in the Al-Qassim region, such as Al-Shanana Tower in Al-Rass, associated with poet Zuhair bin Abi Salma.
Other sites are located in various cities and regions across the Kingdom, such as Al-Baha, Al-Ahsa, Taif, Hail, Madinah, Asir, and Najran.
The project documents the paths of famous Arab poets like Al-Shanfari, born in Salaman village, Al-Saltan Al-Abdi from Jabal Al-Buraiqa, Tarafa bin Al-Abd in Jabal Al-Qara, Ali bin Al-Muqarrab Al-Ayouni in Al-Oyoun Park, and Al-Nabigha Al-Dhibani associated with Souk Okaz.
The historic sites include the homes of poets like Hatem Al-Ta’i in Hail, Hassan bin Thabit in the battlefield of Uhud, Al-Khansa’ in Madinah, Abd Yaghouth Al-Harthy in Najran, and Ibn Al-Dumina in the historic city of Al-Abala in Asir.
The Ministry of Culture in Saudi Arabia is working on a project to highlight the country's role in Arab culture and identify historical sites associated with Arab poets in the Arabian Peninsula.
The goal is to increase awareness of these sites and enhance their value to domestic and international visitors through the addition of educational and informative content.
