Saudi King Salman Discharged After Medical Tests, Royal Court Says
Ninety-year-old monarch leaves hospital following examinations, with official statements offering reassurance on his condition
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz was discharged from a hospital in Riyadh on Saturday after undergoing a series of medical tests, the kingdom’s Royal Court announced in an official statement.
The monarch, who turned ninety this year and leads the world’s largest oil exporter, had been admitted for clinical examinations, generating wide attention given his pivotal role domestically and internationally.
According to the statement reported by state media, the medical checks yielded reassuring results and the king returned to his official duties following the hospital stay.
King Salman has in recent years experienced intermittent health episodes for which he has undergone treatment, including care for lung inflammation in 2025 and other evaluations at specialised medical facilities.
Despite his advanced age, the royal court noted that he recently chaired a cabinet meeting, reflecting ongoing engagement in governance and state affairs.
Saudi state communications emphasised that the examinations were part of routine health oversight advised by his medical team and that no major concerns emerged from the tests.
The announcement aimed to reassure both domestic and international audiences, as the king’s health has been subject to global interest due to Saudi Arabia’s strategic position in global energy markets and its role in regional diplomacy.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman continues to perform day-to-day executive functions as prime minister, though official statements underline that King Salman remains at the helm of the Saudi state and continues to participate in key leadership activities.
