Saudi Fund Commits $100 Million Loan to Back Tajik Hydropower Energy Project
The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has inked a $100 million loan deal to finance Tajikistan's Rogun Hydropower Project.
SFD CEO Sultan Al-Marshad and Tajik Finance Minister Kahhorzoda Fayziddin Sattor signed the agreement, witnessed by dignitaries including the Saudi Ambassador to Tajikistan and Tajikistani Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
This loan is meant to support the 3,600 MW hydropower venture, expected to boost electricity access, provide clean drinking water, and mitigate climate change impacts. It reflects SFD's commitment to fostering social and economic growth in Tajikistan, including job creation.
The move reinforces SFD's longstanding efforts to aid developing nations in their progression, underscoring the value of global collaboration for sustainable advancement and well-being.
Since 2002, the SFD has funded 13 Tajik projects, totaling over $293 million, enhancing vital social infrastructure in health, education, water, transport, and energy.
The support is part of SFD's broader initiative, started in 1975, which has allocated over $20 billion to over 800 projects in upwards of 100 countries worldwide.
