Saudi Formula 1 launches marshal training programme

Saudi Formula 1 launches marshal training programme

The Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) has announced the commencement of the initial training phase for the 2021 Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Marshal Training Programme.
The 2021 Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will take place on the newly built Jeddah Corniche Circuit – soon-to-be the fastest and longest street circuit in the world – on the weekend of December 3-5 along the shores of the breathtaking Red Sea in front of a global audience of millions.

SAMF has also called upon the expertise of a team of specialist Bahraini Marshals - who have been overseeing their own F1 race for the past 17 years – to help in this vital training process.

Scheduled to take place between August 19 - 22, the initial training phase will see the Core team engage in their first serious training session ahead of the inaugural Formula 1 event to arrive in Saudi Arabia.

Consisting of 12 Bahraini Instructors and 28 Saudi nationals, the Core team is made up of the Senior Marshal Team that includes the vital roles of Chief Emergency Coordinator & Chief Scrutineer amongst others.

As part of their training, the senior marshals will be provided with the necessary practical and theoretical knowledge and applied training required to capably carry out their duties when the pinnacle of motorsport arrives in Jeddah. The training is devised to teach effective cooperation, quick decision-making and successful implementation of the Marshall’s many obligations and responsibilities.

In total, the 2021 Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will form a team of 1300 Marshals ahead of the arrival of the world’s greatest drivers in Saudi Arabia in less than 4 months’ time. This number will consist of 417 experienced Bahraini Marshals while the rest will be made up of Saudi volunteers, all of whom will play an essential role in ensuring the race weekend is run in the safest and smoothest manner possible.

Saudi nationals or residents over the age of 18 – preferably with at least moderate spoken English given the international profile of the event - may apply to become a race Marshal, a statement said.

Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al Faisal, Chairman of SAMF said: “The start of our Marshal Training Programme sees us reach another key milestone as we draw ever closer to the inaugural 2021 Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in just a few months’ time. The senior core team will set the tone for the rest of our amazing marshals and volunteers who will play such an important role in helping us to deliver a safe, world-class event next December.”

“We are calling on all people over the age of 18 in Saudi Arabia to volunteer and become part of our amazing event delivery team. The aim of the Marshal Volunteer Programme is to build a first- rate delivery team that will help to fully energise the Saudi people as they welcome the world’s greatest racing series and allow them to directly contribute to the success of the race weekend.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play your part in our Kingdom’s sporting history so my message to all of Saudi Arabia is loud and clear: come and join us as we Overtake the Future together!” he added.
