Saudi FM: Misusing outer space for arms purposes poses grave threat to global security
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, warned that weaponizing space poses a significant threat to global peace and security.
He highlighted this while speaking at a UN disarmament conference in Geneva, emphasizing Saudi Arabia's support for peaceful space exploration.
He advocated for international cooperation to address challenges and regulate space activities to ensure the safety and sustainability of the space environment.
Prince Faisal also reiterated Saudi Arabia's commitment to banning weapons of mass destruction, noting its participation in treaties like the Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions.
He called for global adherence to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and stressed the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, urging for a Middle East free of mass destruction weapons.
The Foreign Minister urged for the reactivation of the Conference on Disarmament, expressing concerns over its current ineffectiveness and advocating for an inclusive approach to expand membership.
He also expressed dismay over the rejection of Palestine's request to join the Conference as an observer, arguing there was no legal basis for the denial.
