Riyadh: Saudi Arabia's Project Masam has successfully removed 1,044 explosive devices from different areas across Yemen over the past week.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, this total includes 957 unexploded ordnances, 79 anti-tank mines, five anti-personnel mines, and three improvised explosive devices.
These hazardous items were scattered indifferently, posing significant threats to civilians, including children, women, and the elderly within Yemen.
Demining operations took place in several key regions such as Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Saada.
The project has been operational since 2018 and, up to this point, has managed to clear a total of 522,778 mines.
Teams involved in the initiative are dedicated to clearing villages, roads, and schools with the aim of facilitating safe civilian movement and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
To ensure effectiveness, Project Masam trains local demining engineers and provides them with state-of-the-art equipment.
Additionally, support is offered to Yemenis who have been injured by these devices.
