Saudi Aramco Awards $7.7B Contract for Fadhili Gas Plant Expansion, Boosting Natural Gas Production and Reducing Emissions
Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil company, Aramco, has awarded a $7.7 billion contract to Samsung Engineering, GS Engineering & Construction, and Nesma & Partners for expanding its Fadhili Gas Plant in the Eastern Province.
The expansion is expected to increase the plant's processing capacity from 2.5 billion to up to 4 billion standard cubic feet per day.
This additional capacity will contribute to Aramco's goal of increasing gas production by over 60% by 2030 compared to 2021 levels.
Wail Al-Jaafari, Aramco's executive vice president of technical services, stated that the expansion will help increase natural gas supplies, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and free up more crude oil for refining and export.

The Fadhili Gas Plant is set to expand by November 2027, adding 2,300 metric tonnes per day to sulphur production.
The expansion also aims to support the development of a lower-carbon hydrogen business and provides important feedstock for petrochemicals using associated liquids from gas.
