Saudi Arabia and US urge Sudan's warring parties to adhere to ceasefire agreement
Saudi Arabia and the US are urging Sudan's warring parties to adhere to the ceasefire agreement signed on May 20, 2023, in Jeddah.
Sporadic artillery fire is still being heard in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, despite the ceasefire, but residents in the city say the fighting has calmed.
Both sides have reportedly violated the agreement, including offensive operations, airstrikes, and use of artillery.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that violators will be held accountable through sanctions and other means.
The conflict has killed at least 863 civilians, including 190 children, and wounded more than 3,530 others.
The ceasefire is intended to enable humanitarian assistance and restored essential services for the Sudanese people.
