Saudi Arabia's Minister Leads Delegation at Ocean Action Event in Costa Rica: Focus on Conservation and Blue Economy
Saudi Arabia's climate envoy, Adel Al-Jubeir, attended the High Level Event on Ocean Action in San Jose, Costa Rica, from June 7-8.
The event aims to raise awareness and take action on ocean conservation issues, including fishing resources, ghost fishing gear, and the blue economy.
Saudi Arabia was represented by a delegation led by Minister of State Al-Jubeir.
The meeting seeks to address the pressing environmental crisis affecting oceans globally.
In 2022, the UN Ocean Conference resulted in numerous financial pledges, amounting to billions of dollars, and approximately 50 high-level commitments.
Notable commitments include a $1 billion investment to establish and manage marine protected areas and Indigenous and locally governed marine and coastal areas by 2030.
The 2017 conference concluded with a "Call for Action" and over 1,300 voluntary commitments towards ocean conservation.
