Saudi Arabia's Climate Envoy Reaffirms Kingdom's Commitment to Protect Oceans and Marine Resources at Costa Rica Event

Saudi Arabia's Climate Envoy and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir, reiterated the Kingdom's commitment to collaborate with the international community in safeguarding oceans and marine resources.
Al-Jubeir made this statement during a high-level event on Action for the Oceans in San Jose, Costa Rica, which aims to prepare for the 3rd UN Ocean Conference in 2025.

The conference discussed topics such as the ocean's carbon dioxide absorption capacity, sustainable fishing, and combating marine pollution.

Saudi Arabia's Climate Envoy, Adel Al-Jubeir, attended the High Level Event on Ocean Action in Costa Rica and spoke about Saudi Arabia's involvement in international negotiations.

The country played a role in creating a legally binding agreement for the sustainable use of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.

Al-Jubeir also mentioned Saudi Arabia's participation in negotiations for a legally binding instrument on plastic pollution that covers the marine environment.

Additionally, the Saudi Green Initiative, part of Saudi Vision 2030, aims to protect 30 percent of the Kingdom's terrestrial and marine areas by 2030.

Saudi Arabia, during its presidency of the G20 in 2020, initiated a global platform to advance coral reef research and development, complementing international efforts to safeguard the marine environment.

The Kingdom is also dedicated to protecting marine and coastal ecosystems in the Red Sea and has launched the General Foundation for the Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles.

Costa Rica's President Rodrigo Chaves met with Saudi Arabia's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Envoy Adel Al-Jubeir on the sidelines of the High Level Event on Ocean Action, where Al-Jubeir highlighted Saudi Arabia's contributions to regional marine conservation efforts in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf.

The text is about the ongoing two-day meeting focused on ocean protection, held in Costa Rica.

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Faisal, is attending the event and is a member of several regional organizations dedicated to environmental conservation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Social Affairs, Li Junhua, emphasized the importance of ocean protection as an imperative, not an option.

Costa Rica's President, Rodrigo Chaves, added that failing to act would negatively impact the future of humanity.
