Saudi Arabia Issues Premium Residency to 685 Tech Experts

Ministerial announcement reveals a diverse group of global talent granted residency under the Exceptional Competence Residency program.
In a significant move to bolster its technological landscape, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Saudi Arabia announced that 685 exceptional talents and researchers in the technology sector have been granted Premium Residency.

This was disclosed during the fourth edition of the LEAP 2025 Technology Conference, held at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center.

The conference, which commenced on Sunday with the theme "Into New Worlds," was inaugurated by Minister Abdullah Alswaha.

The second day of the conference showcased a session dedicated to celebrating the recipients of the "Exceptional Competence Residency" product.

Among the recipients, specialists in 5G technology were the largest group, accounting for 16% of those granted residency.

Cloud computing experts followed closely, making up 15% of the total.

These technological fields are integral to the enhancement of the Kingdom's digital infrastructure, thereby cementing its role as a leader in modern technology adoption.

Further highlighting the emphasis on innovation, individuals specializing in artificial intelligence and machine learning constituted 12% of the Premium Residency holders.

Their expertise is pivotal for advancements across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and digital industries.

Additionally, big data experts represented 13% of the residency recipients, reflecting the growth of this field in economies reliant on comprehensive data analysis.

The attraction of global talent extended beyond these areas, with professionals in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, financial technology, and advanced computing also among those receiving residency.

These sectors are deemed critical for advancing Saudi Arabia’s digital economy.

The new residents hail from a diverse array of countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Brazil, India, Pakistan, and Egypt.

The Ministry's initiative, through the "Exceptional Competence Residency" product offered by the Premium Residency Center, aims to empower international digital expertise, fostering an innovative environment within the Kingdom.

This initiative is aligned with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a strategic framework designed to position the country as a global hub for technology and innovation while promoting job creation, knowledge transfer, and experience exchange.

The Premium Residency Center currently offers seven distinct residency products: Exceptional Competence Residency, Special Talent Residency, Entrepreneur Residency, Investor Residency, Real Estate Owner Residency, Unlimited Duration Premium Residency, and Limited Duration Premium Residency.

These options enable residents to benefit from various privileges, including residency rights for families, business operations, and real estate ownership, alongside numerous advantages facilitated through governmental collaboration.
