RIYADH: In a move to bolster economic ties, Saudi Arabia has introduced travel permits for Syrian businessmen and investors.
These permits, which can now be applied for directly at the embassy in Damascus, are aimed at deepening bilateral relations and facilitating mutual visits.
The Kingdom's embassy in Damascus announced this development on X, stating that interested parties from both countries can explore investment opportunities through these exchanges.The recent diplomatic efforts between Saudi Arabia and Syria have been significant.
Notably, the Kingdom reopened its embassy in Damascus in 2024 after a 12-year closure.
Additionally, in April, Saudi Arabia and Qatar collaborated to settle Syria's $15 million debt to the World Bank as part of broader financial support initiatives for Syria's recovery.The Ministry of Investment in Saudi Arabia has also announced plans to organize a Saudi-Syria Investment Forum in Damascus.
This forum is expected to bring together public and private sector entities from both countries to discuss cooperation opportunities aimed at promoting sustainable development across both nations.
The participation anticipated at the forum indicates a strong push towards enhancing economic relations between the two countries.In June, the meeting between Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih and his Syrian counterpart, Mohammad Al-Shaar, further solidified these efforts.
The discussion focused on exploring investment partnerships and potential collaborations across both public and private sectors.
