SAMI and Kia Partner to Enhance Saudi Military Vehicle Production
Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) has partnered with Kia, the veteran South Korean car maker, by signing a memorandum of understanding at the World Defense Show 2024 in Riyadh.
The collaboration aims to advance SAMI Land Systems' capabilities in producing light tactical vehicles through joint efforts in research and development.
SAMI seeks to localize military vehicle production through this partnership, bolstering the nation's defense sector. CEO Walid Abukhaled emphasized SAMI's commitment to enhancing local skill sets and product quality as part of Saudi Vision 2030's objective to localize 50% of defense expenditure by the target year.
Kia Senior Vice President Kim Ik-tae highlighted Kia's extensive expertise in manufacturing military vehicles, expressing hope that the partnership will reimagine Saudi military transport systems.
At the defense show, SAMI exhibited its latest innovations across various sectors, aspiring to rank among the top 25 global defense companies by 2030.
