Russia to Begin Trial of Suspects in Moscow Concert Hall Attack
Trial to commence for 19 individuals accused of involvement in last year's deadly attack at the Crocus City Hall music venue.
The trial of 19 individuals accused of involvement in the March 2022 attack on the Crocus City Hall music venue in Moscow, which resulted in the deaths of 149 people and left hundreds injured, is set to begin.
Armed men stormed the venue, opening fire before setting it alight.
The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the assault.
Four suspected attackers from Tajikistan and 15 alleged accomplices are expected to face trial over the next few days.
The first three court hearings are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, according to official sources.
While IS has been blamed, Russian authorities have also implicated Ukraine in the attack, a claim vehemently denied by Kyiv as baseless and absurd.
The majority of fatalities were caused not by gunfire but by smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation from the subsequent fire, per reports citing case materials.
This incident heightened xenophobic sentiments towards Central Asian migrants in Russia.
