Russia Closes Major Airport After Ukrainian Drone Attack; 17 Drones Downed in Recent Days
Russia announced the temporary closure of Kazan airport, 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine, following an alleged Ukrainian drone attack in the region of Tatarstan.
Ukrainian forces have increased aerial attacks on Russian border areas and have reportedly struck targets deep inside Russian territory.
The Russian defense ministry claimed to have downed a Ukrainian drone, but the target was not specified.
Two airports in the region, including Kazan, were closed in response.
Russia has imposed temporary restrictions on the airports in Kazan and Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, for the safety of civil aircraft.
This comes after Russia reportedly intercepted and destroyed 17 Ukrainian drones and 10 ATACMS missiles over several border areas and the annexed Crimean peninsula.
Two of these drones caused explosions at a fuel depot in Rostov, but no fire or injuries resulted.
Ukraine is suspected of targeting the fuel depot in Rostov, which is home to Moscow's military headquarters for its operation in Ukraine.
Ukraine has been attacking Russian energy facilities and fuel supplies for over two years in response to the conflict on its territory with Russia.
Kyiv justifies these attacks as the facilities are used to supply the Russian army.
Ukraine has threatened to take the battle to Russian soil due to the destruction it has suffered from Russian bombardments.
