Rooftop Event "Fowg" Elevates Riyadh's Nightlife

In Riyadh's King Abdullah Financial District, a bustling rooftop gathering with music and dance headlined by Italian DJ Lehar drew a full house over the weekend. This event, once unimaginable in Saudi Arabia, has now become a reality thanks to MDLBeast and local creatives' efforts.
Founder of Desert Sound Entertainment, Ayman Al-Zurayer, told Arab News that making this dream come true is a beautiful achievement. He indicated these events were a testament to the growing passion for music in the region.

Lehar shared that he has witnessed a remarkable transformation in the Saudi music scene over his three visits. Performing in Jeddah and Riyadh, he praised the knowledgeable and excited local audience.

MDLBeast has been promoting Thursday nightlife in Riyadh through "Fowg," meaning "above," by offering weekly gatherings in unique settings amidst striking urban architecture. Rayan Al-Rasheed, from MDLBeast, highlighted efforts to showcase Riyadh's nightlife by partnering with local brands to support small businesses and communities.

Al-Rasheed also praised Desert Sound for their high-quality events, explaining why they were chosen to conclude the latest Fowg series. MDLBeast is known for bringing international artists to the region, particularly through its Soundstorm music festival, but these events also focus on local talent.

However, not everyone could enter the sold-out event, a testament to Desert Sound's wide appeal. Al-Zurayer emphasized that their diverse offerings secure loyal followers eager for unique experiences.

Desert Sound had previously impressed with an event called "Mars Escape" featuring Dutch artist Satori, where attendees enjoyed live art and performances in a valley in Riyadh. Co-founder Reema Al-Saud emphasized the importance of starting small to ensure a safe environment, gradually growing their audience.

Highlighting music's power to educate and connect cultures, Al-Zurayer looked forward to Desert Sound's future events that would continue to introduce new talents. Joj, an emerging artist, performed at the milestone Fowg event, feeling encouraged by the supportive presence of many women on the dance floor.

Desert Sound remains dedicated to showcasing the underground scene and has successfully integrated acclaimed international artists, contributing to the recognition of Saudi Arabia's cultural richness.

With Fowg's recent series completed, Al-Rasheed hinted at new experiences on the horizon, including an event at the deserted Irqah Hospital. For updates and upcoming events, the public can follow Desert Sound on Instagram @desertsound.co.
