Retrial of ex-policemen Prevost & Power officially underway at High Court

Retrial of ex-policemen Prevost & Power officially underway at High Court

The highly controversial court matter involving two interdicted policemen, Pamphill Prevost and Simon Power, who were allegedly linked to missing money while they were executing search operations while on police duty between January 2012 to July 2014, is officially underway.

The court matter was scheduled to commence on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, however, it was delayed for reasons unknown and officially commenced before His Lordship the Honourable Justice Raymond C.S Williams today, February 2, 2022, at the High Court.

Henry acquitted

Initially, Prevost, Power, and a third former cop, Shawn Henry, had a string of charges relating to the missing monies stacked against them; however, at the end of the case, which lasted nearly three months in 2019, Henry was acquitted and is now a free man.

Henry was accused of conspiracy to steal and was found not guilty by a jury.

At that time, Justice Rajiv Prasad presided over the matter.

Following the ruling, Henry filed a civil claim against the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Police seeking damages for false imprisonment and malicious prosecution.

According to him, he was incarcerated for over 30 days before he received bail at the High Court.

Other accused men

Notably, Power was also found not guilty on one of two charges he had against him – acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of criminal conduct.

Prevost and Power are still facing the charge of conspiracy to steal.

Attorney Terrance Williams is representing Prevost and Attorney Israel Bruce is representing Power.
