The Royal Commission of AlUla (RCU) has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources to implement environmentally focused monitoring for mining projects in AlUla.
This collaboration ensures mining sites are considered during project planning and design, and requires applicants to submit an environmental impact study along with a site rehabilitation and closure plan.
Additionally, companies must protect water sources, environment, and wildlife from violations and damage.
The mechanism aligns with the RCU's goals of sustainable development and contributes to Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by increasing tourism and diversifying the local economy beyond oil.
AlUla, a historic city in northwest Saudi Arabia, is integral to the Kingdom's tourism objectives, expected to contribute significantly to the national GDP by 2035.
