Putin’s advisers not telling him truth about Russia's war in Ukraine, says UK spy boss, Sir Jeremy Fleming
Vladimir Putin has made a strategic miscalculation in launching the invasion of Ukraine and his advisers are “afraid to tell him the truth” about the extent of his error, the boss of British spy agency GCHQ said in a speech on Thursday.
In a rare speech, Sir Jeremy Fleming said Russia has "massively misjudged the situation" in Ukraine, adding that beleaguered Russian troops have been sabotaging their own equipment and accidentally shot down one of their own aircraft.
The spy chief says Mr Putin has "overestimated the abilities of his military to secure a rapid victory”.
