Private Museums' Contribution to Society Discussed by Saudi Commission
The Saudi Museums Commission held an online meeting to address how private museums enrich society, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Saturday.
The session, joined by experts, museum owners, and enthusiasts, discussed how these museums can enhance cultural heritage and develop the museum sector.
The commission outlined its support services through the Abde’a platform, assisting with obtaining licenses and meeting operational requirements for private museums.
The collaboration with the Tourism Authority to register private museums on the tourist database, making them more accessible, was also highlighted.
Salem Al-Qahtani, who founded two private museums, stressed the importance of partnerships with educational, cultural, and tourism bodies to maximize the societal impact of these institutions.
He expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Culture for its support and educational initiatives in the museum field.
The commission's plans to ease licensing procedures and broaden educational outreach were also discussed. These monthly meetings aim to improve the relationship between the commission and museum stakeholders, exploring ways to progress the museum industry and celebrate the success of Saudi museums.
Since November 2022, the commission has issued 59 licenses for converting residences or buildings into private museums that meet international standards and offer unique experiences to the public and tourists.
