Prince Faisal: Any agreement with Iran must take into account regional security
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan emphasized on Wednesday that any agreement with Iran must take into account the security of the region.
“Also, any nuclear agreement with Iran must take into account the shortcomings of the previous agreement,” he clarified in an interview with Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath televisions.
The war in Ukraine had significant economic consequences for the world, the minister said while stressing the need to find ways to stop the war.
Regarding the OPEC+ decision to cut oil production by two million barrels per day, Prince Faisal denied it was a political move. “The OPEC+ decision was purely economic and was taken unanimously by the organization’s member states. “OPEC+ members acted responsibly and took the appropriate decision,” he said. The minister said that the OPEC+ countries strive to stabilize the global oil market and achieve the interests of producers and consumers.
The foreign minister said that Saudi Arabia’s ties with the United States are strategic and have supported the security and stability of the Middle East. “Our relationship with the United States has been institutionalized since it was established,” Prince Faisal said.
“The military cooperation between Riyadh and Washington serves the interests of both countries and has contributed to the stability of the region,” he added.
Regarding the Yemeni file, Prince Faisal said that the Kingdom, the Arab Coalition, and the Yemeni government were keen on extending the truce and that efforts to extend the truce in Yemen were “still in place.” It is noteworthy that the parties involved in the Yemeni conflict failed to renew a UN-brokered truce deal that expired on October 2.
