Pope Francis Urges 'Lesser Evil' Vote, Voices Criticism of Global Issues from Abortion to Gaza Conflict

Pope Francis urges U.S. Catholics to vote for "lesser evil" while condemning abortion, migrant policies, and Gaza bombings.
Pope Francis has urged American Catholics to vote for the "lesser evil" in the upcoming elections, criticizing both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris for their policies on abortion and migration. During his return from Asia, Francis emphasized the importance of welcoming migrants and condemned abortion, encouraging Catholics to vote with a clear conscience.

Continuing his outspoken stance, Pope Francis also voiced strong criticism against the Israeli bombings in Gaza, condemning the deaths of Palestinian children and doubting the peace efforts of both Israel and Hamas. The pope's remarks came after engaging with a Catholic parish in Gaza and witnessing the destruction of schools amidst the ongoing conflict.

Shifting to the Middle East, Saudi Arabia is leading the global transition to clean energy by heavily investing in blue ammonia as part of its Vision 2030 agenda. With aims to balance its energy mix with 50% from renewables by the decade's end, Saudi Aramco and Ma’aden are spearheading efforts, including successful carbon-neutral ammonia exports.

In Diyarbakir, Turkiye, national outrage has followed the jailing of family members for the murder of eight-year-old Narin Guran. President Erdogan has promised severe punishment after additional relatives were charged with destroying evidence, sparking nationwide protests and social media uproar over the tragic loss.

Turning to Africa, catastrophic flooding in northeastern Nigeria has displaced over one million people and increased risks of cholera and food insecurity. Following a dam burst in Borno State, relief efforts are ongoing with emergency shelters being set up, as the region grapples with the aftermath of torrential rains.

Lastly, in Tunisia, a crackdown ahead of the presidential election has led to the arrest of at least 80 opposition members from the Ennahda party, sparking widespread protests in Tunis. President Kais Saied's administration faces significant criticism for targeting opponents, highlighting growing concerns over democratic suppression in the country.
