Partnership with Kuwait led to successful programs, initiatives: WHO
Cooperation and partnership between the World Health Organization and Kuwait had resulted in numerous new programs and initiatives over recent years, the Kuwait News Agency reported on Friday.
Working in unison had also led to the establishment of a WHO office in Kuwait and strengthened links between the organization and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, WHO’s representative in Kuwait Dr. Assad Hafeez told the agency.
Speaking on World Health Day, he noted much had been achieved in “developing the health care system in Kuwait.”
Hafeez said: “While celebrating World Health Day, which also marks the organization’s 75th anniversary, we underline the importance of partnership in providing everyone with a healthier life.”
And the WHO official pointed out the benefits of cooperation during the coronavirus pandemic.
He also highlighted health-sector achievements over recent decades, including the elimination of smallpox, a 99 percent reduction in polio cases, and the millions of lives saved through vaccination programs for children.
“Seventy-five years ago, and in the wake of the most deadly and destructive war in human history, WHO’s constitution went into effect … it became a treaty between world countries that recognized that health is not only a basic human right, but also an indispensable thing to achieve security and peace.”
World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7, commemorating the establishment of WHO in 1948, and this year run under the slogan, “Health for Everyone.”
