Pakistan Arrests Over 4,000 in Pro-Khan Rally Crackdown Amid Clashes and Service Disruptions

Pakistani police detain over 4,000 Imran Khan supporters and secure Islamabad amidst political rally tensions, as security concerns lead to mobile data suspensions and clashes at regional borders.
In Pakistan, police have arrested over 4,000 supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and sealed off Islamabad with shipping containers ahead of a pro-Khan rally, leading to road closures and disruptions. Meanwhile, security concerns have prompted the government to suspend mobile data services in certain areas, with reported clashes between police and Khan's party, PTI, at the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border.

Transitioning to technology news, major social media platforms are urging Australia to reconsider its proposed ban on under-16 users, as they emphasize the challenges in implementing age verification technologies. Sunita Bose of Digital Industry Group Inc. advocated at a Senate hearing that the legislation should be informed by a forthcoming evaluation of age assurance technologies.

Shifting to international relations, the US is preparing military deployments in Japan and the Philippines in response to Taiwan tensions, aiming to integrate these moves into a joint operation strategy by December. The deployment will see the US Third Marine Littoral Regiment and long-range fire units strategically positioned, with Japan providing logistical support as Washington strengthens its regional alliances against rising Chinese military activities.

Moving to the Middle East, the Lebanese Shiite communities are facing severe adversities amid the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, with Israeli airstrikes causing significant civilian casualties and destruction in areas south of Beirut. The continued hostilities underscore the devastating impact of the conflict on civilians, who find themselves caught in the crossfire due to their proximity to Hezbollah militants.

In Gaza, residents are turning to donkey carts as vital lifelines amid fuel shortages caused by the Israel-Hamas conflict, with these carts becoming indispensable for transportation. Despite expensive fodder and widespread infrastructure destruction, many displaced Gazans rely heavily on these animals for both commuting and fleeing conflict zones.

Lastly, in a tragic incident in Lithuania, a DHL cargo plane crash near Vilnius claimed one life and injured two people, with the accident involving an older Boeing 737 model. Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene, but DHL Group and the operating carrier Swiftair have yet to issue statements on this unfortunate event.
