U.S. charges reveal involvement of Iranian Revolutionary Guards
The U.S. Justice Department has charged Farhad Shakeri, an Iranian resident suspected to be an asset of Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), with involvement in a plot to assassinate President-elect
Donald Trump.
Shakeri, 51, allegedly received orders on October 7, 2024, to devise a plan to kill Trump, although he informed law enforcement he did not intend to comply within the IRGC's timeline.
Shakeri, who grew up in the U.S. but was deported in 2008 after a robbery conviction, is believed to be currently in Iran.
Additionally, Carlisle Rivera and Jonathan Loadholt, both from New York, are charged for conspiring with Shakeri to target a U.S. citizen of Iranian descent.
This individual, possibly journalist and activist Masih Alinejad, has faced previous threats due to her outspoken criticism of Iran's government.
Rivera and Loadholt have been detained awaiting trial, but their attorneys have not commented.
