The Israeli Prime Minister condemns a UN report alleging acts of genocide by Israel in Gaza during the continuing conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement on Thursday condemning a United Nations investigation that found Israel had engaged in 'genocidal acts' in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu referred to the UN Human Rights Council as 'an anti-Israeli circus' that has forfeited its credibility, claiming it operates on principles of anti-Semitism and corruption.
In his comments, Netanyahu argued that the UN chose to spotlight accusations against Israel instead of addressing what he described as the atrocities committed by Hamas, which he termed a terrorist group.
He dismissed the claims in the UN report as 'false' and 'absurd,' notably criticizing allegations concerning the destruction of sexual and reproductive health facilities in Gaza.
Earlier on Thursday, the UN
Commission of Inquiry stated that Israel had 'intentionally attacked and destroyed' the primary fertility center in Gaza, emphasizing the comprehensive blockade enacted by Israel that hindered the delivery of vital aid, including medications essential for safe pregnancies and neonatal care.
The commission claimed that Israeli actions have systematically reduced the reproductive capabilities of Palestinians in Gaza, constituting two types of genocidal acts.
This inquiry was conducted by a three-member Independent International
Commission of Inquiry set up by the UN Human Rights Council in May 2021. The commission's role is to investigate alleged breaches of international law in Israel and the Palestinian territories amid the ongoing conflicts, which have intensified significantly since the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.
