Makkah Upgrades Hira Cave Route for Enhanced Safety and Access
Makkah has unveiled the initial phase of the Hira Cave pathway upgrade, enhancing access for walkers and vehicles.
Officials from Makkah’s Hira Cultural District recently announced the start of this major initiative.
The Cave of Hira, pivotal in Islam as the location where the first Qur'anic verses emerged, has gained better access due to this project.
The initiative is part of Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at enriching the experience of pilgrims and visitors with cultural insights.
The new route beginning at Mount Hira's base makes the journey to the cave easier and more scenic.
Samaya Investment Co.'s CEO, Fawaz Al-Mehrij, confirmed that further improvements are planned.
New features include lit paths, security cameras, and a visitor center, while keeping the old trail open.
For added safety, roadside barriers have been installed. The new route offers a swift 15-minute walk or a leisurely 40-minute stroll to the cave.
Al-Mehrij pointed out the previous path's safety issues and noted the new amenities, like service kiosks, which cater to visitors' needs on their way up.
Although not yet complete, the road’s construction is on schedule, with further development expected in the coming months.
Al-Mehrij highlighted that test runs show that the new path greatly enhances visitor safety and comfort, with emergency services available on site.
