Kuwaiti tech pioneer Mohamed Al-Sharekh dies at 82
Mohamed AbdulRahman Al-Sharekh, a renowned Kuwaiti entrepreneur and Arab software technology innovator, died at age 82.
Al-Sharekh, leading Sakhr Software Company, made history by developing the first Arabic Operating System for computers.
Born in 1942 in Kuwait City, Al-Sharekh studied economics at Cairo University and economic development at Williams College, Massachusetts. In his illustrious career, he held influential roles, including in the Kuwaiti government and international banking.
Al-Sharekh spearheaded several tech initiatives, launching his company Al-Alamiah in 1980 and Sakhr Software in 1982, thereby pioneering Arabic computing technology and language software.
His contributions included an extensive archive of Islamic information, computer education programs, and innovative Arabic language tools. Besides tech entrepreneurship, Al-Sharekh authored literary works and received numerous accolades, such as the King Faisal International Prize for his services to Islam and awards recognizing his role in integrating Arabic with modern technology.
