Ahmedabad: Kazakhstan ambassador to India, Yerlan Alimbayev, who was on a daylong visit to Ahmedabad, sought setting up a jetty along the Gujarat coastline dedicated exclusively for trade with the country. The proposal was discussed during a courtesy meeting between Alimbayev and Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani in Gandhinagar on Thursday.
“We had a courtesy meeting with the chief minister of Gujarat, wherein our plans to set up a dedicated jetty at Gujarat port were discussed. We will further work out a plan of action and then finalise on the investment that will be made,” said
“This dedicated terminal will help us export goods such as petrochemicals and engineering goods, among others to different markets,” he added.
Sources confirmed that talks to establish direct connectivity between Ahmedabad and Kazakhstan also took place between the two leaders.
Alimbayev also met industry representatives at Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) during the day. Talking to TOI, he said that Kazakhstan is exploring a sister-city relationship between a city of Gujarat and Kazakhstan.
“We are exploring ties between either Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar in Gujarat and Almaty or Shymkent in Kazakhstan,” he added.
