Iraq-Syria Border Crossing to Reopen After Months of Closure
The Semalka Border Crossing between Iraq and Syria will reopen on Monday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The crossing was closed since May, affecting commercial traffic between the two regions.
The announcement stated that the border crossing will operate three days a week - Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday - for humanitarian organizations and specific personnel only.
The crossing will not allow commercial movement at the present time.
Several meetings were held in recent days between mediators and officials in the Kurdistan region of Iraq to reopen the border crossing, which was closed suddenly on May 11.
The crossing is used to transport patients suffering from incurable diseases and facilitate the process of commercial movement between the two regions, as well as visitors, especially from abroad.
It was also closed last year.
The reopening of the Semalka Border Crossing is expected to ease the transportation of goods and people between the two regions and improve economic activities in the region.
