Infection Prevention and Control Manager Mrs. Rosa Ravariere-Seaman said the aim is to engage our staff and the community around the important topic of Infection prevention and several events will be hosted to outline ways that patients, families, and healthcare providers can all work together to keep patients safe.

“From nurses to doctors, environmental services to the Operating Room, everyone needs to know the top ways to prevent infections,” Mrs. Ravariere-Seaman stated.

Residents are encouraged to support the initiative by participating in the various activities being hosted by the BVI Health Services Authority. Activities include educational sessions on infection prevention at various community clinics and an Open House and Personal Protective Equipment Fashion Show on Friday October 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

“Here at BVIHSA, we promote the rational use of antibiotics and ensure that our workers are vaccinated,” Mrs. Ravariere-Seaman said. She added, “We encourage persons to get vaccinated, especially against measles – a highly contagious and deadly virus. Vaccines are an easy way to stay healthy and to prevent infections from spreading. Help us celebrate all the infections prevented and lives saved this year.”

Infection Prevention Week is being held under the theme “Vaccines are Everybody’s Business” and will run from October 6 to 12.
