HRC president: Human rights in Saudi Arabia protected by laws

President of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri reiterated that human rights in the Kingdom are protected by national laws and regulations.
The interest in ensuring these rights has doubled under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed Bin Salman she said.

She added that the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 has brought about substantial reform in many laws and legislations that would enhance the protection of human rights.

In a press statement on the occasion of World Human Rights Day 2022, she said: “The reforms that the Kingdom witnessed in human rights contributed to achieving the highest standards of response to national priorities and international commitments in this field through several amendments and reforms.

“These have contributed to the promotion and protection of these rights at the local level, in addition to its accession to many of international human rights instruments and conventions, and this has reinforced the establishment of an authority linked directly to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques tasked with protecting and promoting human rights.”

Al-Tuwaijri explained that human rights at present need to be tackled professionally and methodically, based on sensing these rights, knowledge, dialogue, organized work, exchange of experiences, and partnerships in a way that provides effective tools to promote human rights at the local and international levels.

She added that the human and societal values represented by the Saudi society are considered an incubator and enabler of human rights based on the community’s culture which is enriched with love for peace and goodness and based on the principles of Islamic Shariah.

Al-Tuwaijri indicated that the Kingdom’s government and people work as one to protect and promote human rights, and join the world through the international commitment to preserving fundamental rights and freedoms for all.

This day for this year bears the slogan “dignity, freedom, and justice for all”, which confirms the recognition of the inherent dignity of all human beings and their equal rights.

This is embodied in the principles of Law of Governance in realizing the principles and values of justice, consultation and equality per Islamic Shariah, she said.
