Saudi Foreign Minister participates in discussions on Palestinian reconstruction and peace efforts following recent conflicts.
A high-level meeting focusing on the reconstruction of Gaza took place in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday, with the attendance of Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
Key attendees included Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ayman Safadi, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Badr Abdelatty, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Khalifa Shaheen Al-Marar, and Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President's Special Envoy to the Middle East, also participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, the Arab foreign ministers presented a Gaza reconstruction plan that was previously approved during the Arab Summit held in Cairo on March 4, 2025. A joint communiqué issued at the conclusion of the meeting outlined that the ministers resolved to collaborate with the U.S. envoy to continue consultations and coordination regarding the reconstruction efforts.
The participants emphasized the critical need to extend the ceasefire in Gaza and in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The meeting reinforced the requirement for genuine initiatives aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which aims to fulfill the aspirations of the Palestinian people for freedom and independence.
Additionally, the Arab ministers reiterated their commitment to fostering dialogue to sustain the ceasefire, while working cooperatively to promote security, stability, and peace in the region.
This will involve intensifying diplomatic efforts and coordination with various regional and international stakeholders.
This meeting follows the conclusion of the first 42-day phase of a three-phase ceasefire and prisoner swap agreement between Hamas and Israel, which began on January 19 and was brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, ending on March 1.
