Former Vice President Kamala Harris says it was 'recklessness' for Democrats to leave the decision of Biden's reelection to him.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed criticism over the decision by Democrats to leave it to President
Joe Biden to decide whether to run for another term in 2024.
In an excerpt from her new book, "107 Days," published in The Atlantic, Harris describes this decision as 'recklessness.'
Harris acknowledges that Biden's age was a significant factor at the time, describing him as 'tired' and noting the physical and verbal stumbles he experienced, particularly during his unsuccessful debate performance.
Despite these observations, Harris asserts that Biden's ability to do the job remained unaffected.
The decision to allow Biden to decide on his own whether to run was seen as an ill-fated move after Biden ultimately withdrew from the race in July 2024 following a disappointing debate performance.
Harris now points out that the stakes were too high for such a personal and subjective decision.
Harris also addresses criticism regarding her role as Vice President and how she believes that Biden's inner circle fueled negative narratives against her.
She describes instances where her staff was perceived as diminishing her influence to avoid overshadowing Biden, particularly when Harris called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and increased humanitarian aid last year.
Harris' book, "107 Days," which references the brief duration of her presidential campaign, is scheduled for release on September 23 by Simon & Schuster.
