Gaza Civil Defense Reports Israeli Forces Killing 28 People

Israeli military operations lead to the deaths of at least 23 people in Palestinian Territories, with five more killed in overnight air strike.
GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories: The Gaza civil defense agency reported that Israeli military operations resulted in the killing of at least 23 individuals across the Palestinian territory on Friday.

Additionally, five others lost their lives in an overnight air strike.

According to Civil Defense Spokesman Mahmud Bassal, who spoke with AFP, these fatalities occurred during strikes targeting school buildings and tents used as shelters for displaced Palestinians due to ongoing war conditions, now in its 22nd month. The Israeli military stated that the specific strike, which resulted in five deaths, was aimed at a key member of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization.

This militant group has been actively involved in hostilities alongside Hamas in Gaza.

The conflict has also led to the deaths of more than a dozen other Palestinians throughout various regions in Gaza, including its north, center, and south on Friday. The reported casualties further include at least eight individuals killed while attempting to access humanitarian aid.

However, the Israeli military did not comment on these reports when contacted by AFP.Due to media restrictions in place within Gaza and limited access to specific areas, it has been challenging for AFP to independently verify the casualty figures and details provided by the civil defense agency and other involved parties. The Israeli campaign initiated after a deadly attack carried out by Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Since then, the military operations have resulted in the loss of 59,676 Palestinians, primarily civilians, as per the Hamas-run territory's health ministry records.Conversely, Hamas's actions in October 2023 led to the deaths of 1,219 individuals, with the majority being civilians, based on an AFP tally compiled from official figures.
