Saudi Arabia and Iran Pledge Commitment to Implement Beijing Agreement
Saudi Arabia and Iran have affirmed their dedication to upholding the Beijing Agreement following the inaugural meeting of the Saudi-Chinese-Iranian Tripartite Joint Committee in Beijing.
The session, overseen by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, saw the confirmation of improved Saudi-Iranian ties since the March agreement and the commitment to re-establish their embassies in Riyadh and Tehran, along with ongoing ministerial exchanges.
China's pivotal role in facilitating the discussions was commended by both Saudi and Iranian representatives. The parties engaged in dialogue on enhancing trilateral cooperation across numerous sectors and voiced their concerns regarding the escalating tensions in Gaza, emphasizing the urgency for halting military actions and advocating for a resolution reflecting Palestinian self-determination.
The agreement sets the stage for the next tripartite committee meeting to be held in Saudi Arabia come June, with mutual recognition of China's instrumental mediating influence and a shared stance on the necessity for any Gaza conflict resolution to respect Palestinian sovereignty.
