Iran Executes Individual Linked to Alleged Israeli-Connected Drone Strike
Iran executed an individual accused of planning a drone attack on a defense ministry site in Isfahan, as per state media on Sunday.
The attack was allegedly under direction from an Israeli Mossad officer. The execution's timing and the person's identity remain undisclosed.
Isfahan hosts critical nuclear research sites, including a uranium conversion facility. Iran's nuclear initiatives, hindered by sanctions, have faced sabotage, scientist murders, and cyber-attacks, with suspected Israeli involvement.
In February 2023, Iran announced the arrest of key suspects from the Isfahan drone attack near the Natanz nuclear enrichment site. An earlier defensive response resulted in the destruction of one drone and the detonation of two others at a ministry location, causing minor damage without casualties.
The targeted strike was on an ammunition plant, according to reports. The Iranian intelligence ministry revealed an attempt in August to disrupt its missile program, claiming Israeli intelligence was behind it.
Additionally, in January, Iran executed four Kurds for alleged espionage for Israel, linked to a planned attack on another defense location in Isfahan.
In April 2021, Iran reported it began enriching uranium to 60% at Natanz after attributing an incident there to Israel. Tensions have escalated due to the conflict in Gaza, with Iran backing Hamas but denying direct combat involvement in regional conflicts.
