Egyptian envoy highlights support for Lebanon stability efforts
Egypt's Ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, attended a gathering with the interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati and representatives from Saudi Arabia, France, the US, and Qatar.
The meeting, which involved the ambassadors of a five-nation group, aimed to bolster Lebanon's stability efforts.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed the country's commitment to supporting Lebanon's stability. Ambassador Moussa underscored Egypt's backing for the election of a new Lebanese president, emphasizing the need to swiftly conclude the process amidst the regional context.
Participants, including Moussa, highlighted the group's objective to facilitate a just and open selection of Lebanon's president through dialogue. They made it clear that the group will not meddle in the Lebanese parliament's exclusive mandate to appoint the president.
Prime Minister Mikati expressed gratitude for the group's support amid Lebanon's challenges and stressed the importance of a new president in completing the state's institutions and enforcing vital reforms to address the ongoing crises.
A collective Arab and international effort was initiated last year to aid Lebanon, which has been without a head of state since the end of Michel Aoun's presidency in October 2022.
