OpenAI CEO Calls for Preparedness for the Consequences of Artificial Intelligence

OpenAI CEO Calls for Preparedness for the Consequences of Artificial Intelligence

Sam Altman, the president of American company OpenAI, developer of the artificial intelligence chat platform "Chat GPT," believes that content created using artificial intelligence (AI) in the future will surpass that produced by humans.
During a conference organized by the American semiconductor giant Intel, Altman urged societies to prepare for the negative consequences of the widespread use of AI before they occur.

Altman anticipates that the negative impacts of AI on elections may emerge in the near future. His statements come at a time when fabricated video footage, known as "deepfakes," has been used in the upcoming Indian elections later this year.

He emphasized the need to take seriously the risks associated with the use of AI in cyber warfare and biological weapons. According to the German News Agency, Altman stated that AI will not be just a positive story, but rather one where its benefits significantly outweigh its drawbacks.

With the aid of artificial intelligence, Altman pointed out, the pace of scientific research can be accelerated, diseases can be cured more effectively, and education can be improved. He added that it is hard to imagine the extent of improvement that the future may hold due to this new technology.

Meanwhile, he stressed the importance of a strong regulatory role by the state in new technologies, especially now as AI models are still relatively weak.

Altman insisted that a company like OpenAI should not develop an AI smarter than humans in secret and then release it into the world. Society and its institutions must have time to adapt gradually to the developments.

It is notable that the Chat GPT platform, which was launched last year and generated significant excitement about artificial intelligence, relies on using vast amounts of information for training. Capable of writing texts at a linguistic level akin to human writing, it can also write program codes and summarize information.
