UAE and Kenya finalize terms of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement
The UAE and Kenya have signed a wide-ranging Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement aimed at increasing investment in key sectors like logistics, healthcare, and tourism.
This agreement promises greater market access for both countries' businesses and will support the expansion and cooperation of small and medium enterprises.
Kenya's economy, which grew by 5% last year and has strong services and agriculture sectors, presents significant opportunities for UAE businesses.
The UAE Foreign Trade Minister, Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, hailed the agreement as a major achievement in the UAE's trade strategy, signifying stronger economic links with Africa and promising trade, investment, innovation, and sustainable development.
Kenya's Trade Secretary, Rebecca Miano, sees the agreement as crucial to leveraging international trade for economic growth and transformation, facilitating market access in Asia and the Middle East, and attracting investment for local development.
The UAE celebrated a record $710 billion in non-oil trade in 2023, marking significant growth from the past two years. This CEPA with Kenya adds to the UAE's growing list of trade agreements, including those with nations such as India, Israel, Indonesia, Türkiye, Georgia, and South Korea.
