Emiratis working in UAE private sector up 11% in Q1

The number of Emiratis working in the private sector in the UAE witnessed a growth of 11 percent in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, according to the country’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization.
The Ministry, in a statement, revealed that more than 10,500 Emiratis have joined UAE’s private sector since the beginning of 2023, bringing the total number of Emirati employees in the private sector to over 66,000.

“The increase of Emirati employees in the private sector was accompanied with a 13 percent increase in the number of private sector companies employing Emiratis in Q1 2023, compared to 2022 numbers, as the total number of companies hiring UAE nationals to date exceed 16,000, including more than 2,000 companies that hired Emiratis since the start of 2023,” said MoHRE in a statement.

The Ministry added that it is working to elevate the economy in the country through public-private partnerships, and is keen to implement targeted measures to enhance the role of Emiratis in the job market, particularly in the private sector, news agency WAM reported.

“We are expecting a stronger rhythm of employing Emiratis in the next two months as the deadline for achieving the 1 percent semi-annual Emiratization target for private sector companies with 50 employees or more will be 30th June 2023,” said the Ministry in the statement.

The Ministry data revealed that the number of Emiratis in the business services sector also edged up by 10 percent in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.

Commerce and repair services sector witnessed a growth of 13 percent, while the construction sector saw a growth of 14 percent in terms of Emiratization.

The number of Emiratis in the financial brokerage and manufacturing sectors went up by 4 percent and 10 percentage respectively.

The ministry further pointed out that more than 5,000 Emiratis benefited from career counseling services in the first three months of 2023.

Meanwhile, MoHRE recently announced punishments for false Emiratization cases. The authority, in a Twitter post, said that they have detected 380 false Emiratization cases to date.
