Egypt, India to Boost Military, Security Cooperation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met on Monday with India's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss ways to enhance military and security cooperation.
Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said the discussions between the Egyptian President and the Indian Minister addressed enhancing military and security cooperation, especially in joint manufacturing, transfer, and localization of technology to enhance exploiting capabilities and infrastructure.

The talks also touched on cooperation in training, qualification, joint exercises, and exchange of expertise and information.

Sisi's talks with the Indian Minister reviewed the Egyptian efforts to combat terrorism.

Singh praised Egypt's pivotal and decisive role in combating and eliminating the threat of terrorism, which cast a shadow on the security and stability of Egypt and regional security.

India is looking forward to exchanging experiences and consolidating the military and security aspect within the cooperation framework, said the Minister, expressing his country's appreciation for the progress and prosperity in Egyptian-Indian relations.

The Minister stressed India's keenness on strengthening their historical relations in light of the comprehensive development that Egypt is currently witnessing under the leadership of Sisi.

In 2018, Egypt hosted the second meeting of the joint working group between Egypt and India on combating international terrorism.

According to the Egyptian Information Service, the participants reviewed the terrorist risks threatening the two countries as part of their efforts to combat terrorist organizations that undermine international security and stability. The committee's first meeting was in 2016.

For his part, Sisi asserted that Egypt values its historical ties with India, underlining its interest in enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in the military and defense fields.

The President also looks forward to activating the partnership between the two friendly countries to be commensurate with their capabilities in all fields.

The meeting comes within the framework of a two-day visit of the Indian Defense Minister to Cairo, during which Singh will hold bilateral talks with his Egyptian counterpart Minister of Defense and Military Production Lieutenant-General Mohamed Zaki, on defense relations, military cooperation initiatives, and boosting cooperation in the defense industries.

The Indian delegation will also sign a memorandum of understanding to expand defense cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Cairo.

The Embassy asserted that the visit aims to boost defense cooperation and ties between the two countries.
