AWS announces $5.3 billion investment to launch infrastructure region in Saudi Arabia by 2026
AWS plans to establish a $5.3 billion infrastructure region in Saudi Arabia by 2026, enhancing local access to its services for various sectors including healthcare, education, gaming, and nonprofits, while adhering to data residency needs.
The initiative, unveiled at the LEAP conference in Riyadh, aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, promoting digital advancement and education sector growth through foreign university partnerships.
In addition to the new region, AWS is boosting Saudi Arabia's tech ecosystem by opening two innovation centers and providing technical mentorship on advanced technologies to MENA startups.
The "AWS Saudi Arabia Women's Skills Initiative" aims to upskill 4,000 women in cloud fundamentals in collaboration with Skillsoft Global Knowledge.
The upcoming AWS Region will include three Availability Zones, enhancing global infrastructure with higher reliability and reduced latency for applications. It supports the Middle East's innovation and cloud service needs, underlining AWS's commitment to the region's tech evolution.
AWS is also expanding cloud education, targeting free training for 29 million people worldwide by 2025. Amazon Academy furthers this by training over 30,000 Saudis in cloud tech, logistics, and retail, offering certifications and internships.
AWS's investment signifies a transformative step for Saudi Arabia's cloud computing, equipping local institutions and businesses with state-of-the-art tech capabilities to foster growth and innovation.
