Algerian President Removes Prime Minister, Appoints Interim Replacement
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune dismisses Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, appointing Industry Minister Sifi Ghrieb as interim prime minister.
ALGIERS: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has removed his prime minister, Nadir Larbaoui, according to an official statement that did not provide any reasons for the decision.
Larbaoui, a former lawyer who previously served as Algeria's ambassador to several countries and at the United Nations, held the position since November 2023.
His absence from a recent meeting discussing a bus accident in the North African country that resulted in eighteen fatalities has sparked criticism on social media platforms.
The presidential statement announced Industry Minister Sifi Ghrieb as the interim prime minister.
Ghrieb will retain his ministerial portfolio while taking up this new role.
He has held various senior positions, including the position of board chairman at the Algerian Qatari Steel company.
