Starting January 15, All Residential Rent Payments in Saudi Arabia to Be Processed via Ejar Online Platform
Starting January 15, Saudi Arabia mandates that all residential rent payments be processed via the Ejar online platform, as confirmed by the kingdom's Real Estate General Authority.
Payments can be made using Mada or SADAD options on Ejar with the number 153. Commercial rents are not affected by this rule.
Following January 15, any rent payment not made through Ejar will not be recognized. Electronic receipts will be phased out as Ejar will record transactions automatically.
This measure implements a Saudi Cabinet directive to digitize rent transactions and improve the rental market's efficiency. Within five working days of contract documentation on Ejar by a certified broker, tenants can start making digital payments.
Ejar also aims to protect tenants' rights from property inspection to contract signature, including the landlord's responsibilities for maintenance and safety. The shift to digital payments is intended to enhance transparency, documentation, right protection, and reduce fraud in the real estate sector.
