Saudi Team Wins Four Medals at 2025 International Physics Olympiad
The Kingdom's National Physics Team secures seven medals and certificates of appreciation at the annual event.
The Saudi National Physics Team excelled at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in Paris, securing four medals between July 17 and 25.
The team's achievements include a silver medal for Mazen Al-Shakhs and three bronze medals awarded to Hussein Al-Saleh, Mohammed Al-Arfaj, and Ali Al-Hassan.
These accomplishments have elevated Saudi Arabia's overall standings at the competition, bringing the nation's total to seven silver, 23 bronze, and 22 certificates of appreciation.This year's IPhO saw participation from 425 students representing 85 countries, underscoring the global significance of the event.
The success of the Saudi team is attributed to rigorous training provided by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), with support from the Ministry of Education and sponsorship by Saudi Aramco.The IPhO, established in 1967, is an annual competition open to high school students, with each country allowed up to five competitors and two team leaders.
The event rotates among member countries, with Bucaramanga, Colombia, set to host in 2026.
Historically, China has emerged as the most successful at the Olympiad, followed by Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States within the top five rankings.
